Why It Matters
The gender gap in leadership starts early. As reported by the Girl Scout Research Institute, self-perception as a leader for girls is highest in grades 2-4, then drops in grades 7-10. Furthermore, while 92% of girls believe anyone can acquire leadership skills, only 21% believe they have the qualities to be a good leader. By the time they reach adulthood, women are dramatically underrepresented in leadership roles.
